First looksWalking is probably the best way to see Paris in-depth, but for a quick overview, the hop-on-hop-off bus tours are perfect for first-time visitors. One gets a sense of the size of the city, locations and a bit of history through the little earbuds that come with the ticket. For photographs, you really must sit up top in the open air, and that's where this photo of the Eiffel Tower peeking up above the buildings was taken.
From a café across from the Opera GarnierBeats me why I like this. I have a number of pictures of this, including a snippet of video from this scene as well. The front steps of the Opera are in the background. I like the semi-hidden face of the diner. Great place to watch people and enjoy an espresso. December 2015
Eiffel Tower from the TrocadéroI cannot remember what the statue is but there is so much statuary in Paris it's hard to keep track of it. I like this misty, foggy, moody treatment of this area that has seen so much history, including a visit (and famous photo) of Adolph Hitler about where all those people are standing.
Old woman on the Avenue de l'OperaThis is taken looking up the Avenue with the Opera Garnier in the background at center. It seems a little strange to see someone like this on what is one of Paris' more cosmopolitan streets. Paris, December 2015 .
Girl with bicycleIt's not her bicycle, but it completes the picture. I took this photo from the open area in front of the Louvre. It's actually a crop from a larger, less interesting scene. I think I like the black and white version the best. Paris, December 2015.
Street Experiment, Paris, December 2015This shot is relatively unremarkable except for all the advertising on the sides of the buildings. This is just a Photoshop exercise which I think is kind of interesting.
Scooter Boy, ParisThis is one of those shots that one grabs the best one can. I saw this kid, dressed in a rather grown up way, on a scooter and got two shots before he zipped away. This one is the best, even though it's not perfect (the bench breaks up his form), but I like it as a souvenir shot. Paris, December 2015.
Busker, Paris, December 2015This guy was playing the most typical of French accordion music at the bottom of the steps leading up to the La Basilique du Sacré Cœur de Montmartre. Better known as simply the Sacré Cœur. For a Euro he was happy to pose for a picture. This is more of a street portrait, and if I'd thought about it I would have waited until the girl in the background was done taking her pictures. But it's still a fun shot.
