Indiana is a state with a lot of variety. Most of the pictures here will be from my stomping grounds, the area of Northern Indiana just south of the Michigan state line. Some of it is rural, some of it more citified. Some of it is metropolitan. From the Amish communities to the industrial Elkhart area, to Notre Dame, this is where I live.
The Rocket Car Wash has been in business in Elkhart, Indiana since before I can remember, at the same location, as far as I know. I sometimes like to drive slowly around an area (city or rural) to see what pictures appear out the window as the car moves. This image, with the glowing sky behind and the sign itself softly lighted, jumped out at me and I couldn't resist. This was a cold December evening and the shot was made with the iPhone 7 Plus.
It's not really a sidewalk café. It used to be called the Cow Bell, but it's been Evan's for at least 20 years. Daily specials, breakfast and lunch. Basic, but good, diner food. And they know you by your first name. Taken in 2017 with an iPhone 7 Plus.
I've been getting my hair cut at Kent's Barber Shop for at least 12 years, maybe more. Kent's is an actual barber shop, not a hair salon that does men's hair as well as women's. You go in, you talk to Kent or Jeff (his son, who also cuts hair), wait no more than ten minutes usually, and you're out in 20. Perfect. Taken several years ago with the iPhone 4s.
Elkhart County Fair is one of the biggest county fairs in the country. I was taking a photo down the line of food booths when this man came by on his scooter chair asking "Did you get it?" I said I hadn't been shooting him specifically, but then I asked if he would let me get a picture. This is the result.
The high contrast nature of objects in snow popped out at me in this setting. Somewhere south of Elkhart, I believe I told this with either an iPhone 4s or a Canon PowerShot point & shoot camera.
Due to the unfortunate situation of a death in the family, I visited Dubois County, Indiana for the first time. Rural, hilly and beautiful, it is at the opposite end of the state from Elkhart County. I can see returning at some point to get more pictures like this one. August, 2017.
